Good Friday (Mary's Story)

The day we call Good Friday
was the worst day
of a few people’s lives.

Mary watched her eldest
buckle under the weight of a cross
resting on his shoulder;
thirty-three, unmarried, childless.

No table prepared
in the presence of his enemies,
No cup running over.
Only angelic words
that did not hold.

When her son died,
her hope was buried
alongside his body.
